Lots have been discussed regarding the boom of what couple of years ago used to be a niche market but now it's destined to be as big as the internet.
Welcome to today's mobile applications market.
"There's an app for that" has become much more than just a catchy line. It is the vivid proof of how apps have become part of our lives: Want to get yesterday scores for the NFL? There's an app for that. Want to find your car in a parking lot? There's an app for that. Want to know where to find the best deal for a product? Guess what, there's an app for that too. There are apps for almost anything you can think of and the number continues to grow quickly.
Now, the problem is that because we live in a user generated driven world, becoming a developer is quite easy for anybody with enough patient and a decent knowledge of how the web works. Youtube gives you over 4,500 results when you search "how to build an app for iphone" and while I'm not sure how many of those are indeed good, you get the idea.
The thing is that as a result of this storm of frenetic creators, the market is filled with thousands of useless apps that, in some way, just make it more confusing of what already is.
Do we want less apps? do we need an app for almost anything? I really don't know but I can tell you this: I do see a future with less yet better ones. Apps that are more useful and that could potentially become key part of our digital lives like emails and texting. Let's just way until the storm calms down.
